Chikankari Hand embroidery

Chikan embroidery is a form of hand embroidery with pattern, of predominantly different designs, stitched using untwisted white cotton or silk (and now rayon) threads on the surface of the fabric. In chikan work, there is a fixed repertoire of stitches and it is usual for several types to appear on the same piece of embroidery . Chikankari clothes can be made in the form of end products like Saree suits, mens kurta,ladies top,ladies apparel, and home furnishing items

The major type of Chikankari work done today are Taipchi, Bakhia, Phanda, Murri, Jali, Hatkati, Pechni, Ghas Patti, Chaana Pati, etc.

A well established centers operating with skilled Kaarigars (Workers) employed work together to get this fine peice of apparel. These centres are running in Lucknow, with various job work carried out under the supervision of a centre supervisors, who have thorough knowledge of the intricacies and fineness of Chikan embroidery .
